B-Site Inc. will host “Pop Flash,” the final event in Riot Games’ VALORANT Ignition Series of 2020 for North America. Featuring teams such as Cloud9, Dignitas, Team Envy, Gen.G, Immortals, and T1, the $50K USD competition is set to take place with open qualifiers starting on Aug. 17 with the main event scheduled from Aug. 26-30. The eight-team tournament will be played entirely online and teams wishing to participate can sign up for the open qualifiers starting Wednesday.
Known for its Flashpoint property, B-Site’s Counter-Strike: Global Offensive competition, this will be the company’s first VALORANT event. Talent will include Christine “Potter” Chi, Alex “Mauisnake” Ellenberg, Daniel “ddk” Kapadia, Erik “DoA” Lonnquist and Jason “moses” O’Toole. Additional talent will be announced at a later date.
VALORANT is Riot Games’ new 5-on-5 first-person tactical shooter that pits teams of different heroes with unique abilities against each other in a “capture the flag” style game. Riot Games’ concept behind the VALORANT Ignition Series is to allow regions to “develop a competitive legacy” in order to help discover talented players and “build global recognition.”
Many other high-profile esports organizations such as FaZe Clan, Team SoloMid, and 100 Thieves have jumped on the VALORANT bandwagon to test the space. While the COVID-19 pandemic forced Riot and Ignition Series hosts to the modify tournament format and structure, there is hope that live, in-person events will take place sometime in 2021.
