Axiom Verge 2 Headed To PS5

It’s been revealed during the Day of the Devs showcase that Axiom Verge 2 will be heading to PS4 and PS5 later this year.

Backing up the announcement is a blog post on the official PlayStation website from Axiom Verge developer Thomas Happ. In the blog post, Happ details his reasoning in bringing Axiom Verge 2 to PlayStation consoles, explaining that he felt he owed Sony for showcasing the first Axiom Verge at its booth at E3 2014.

Happ then goes on to says that the PS4 version of the game will simultaneously release alongside the PC and Nintendo Switch versions, but the PS5 version may take a little bit longer as he wants to fully utilize the in-game hints system on the console. It sounds like PS5 users will have to wait a little bit longer, but at least we know that Happ is working on some unique PS5 features for the game.

He also goes on to reveal some new gameplay details about Axiom Verge 2 in his blog post, explaining that he’ll be implementing new difficulty features for fans who might want to make the game easier/harder. Players will be able to change how much damage they deal/take and every boss in the game will be completely optional, allowing you to skip one or two if they prove to be too tough.

Axiom Verge 2 follows the story of a woman named Indra, a tech billionaire who winds up in an alternate version of Earth while exploring Antarctica. The game features a new main character as well as a new environment and is completely detached from the first game, although there will be a few references for keen-eyed fans.

As for when Axiom Verge 2 actually releases, the game was recently delayed into Q2 due to the pandemic, meaning the game will launch at some point between July and September. Happ claims that the game will be better for the delay and that he didn’t want himself to crunch in order to hit a particular date he set for himself. As an apology, Happ has made his behind-the-scenes documentary free of charge which you can download on Steam.
