Call of Duty: Mobile Tops 300 Million Downloads

Call of Duty: Mobile has been downloaded over 300 million times in its first year of availability.

The popular mobile title – a free-to-play shooter from Tencent subsidiary TiMi Studios – is now just over a year old after launching for both Android and iOS on October 1, 2019. It surpassed 35 million downloads in no time and has since attracted a total north of 300 million.

With CoD: Mobile’s 11th season now live, the game’s general manager Matt Lewis has confirmed it’s been downloaded by at least 300 million people. Activision Blizzard pointed to the game’s success when noting financial results for the year’s second quarter back in August, stating the game showed “strong sequential growth in engagement and player investment.”

The company reported revenues of $1.93 billion for the period ending June 30, 2020, a significant move up from the $1.40 billion made in the second quarter of the previous year. Activision credited the Call of Duty franchise for the greater share of its profits, with the launch of Modern Warfare’s battle royale Warzone prompting significant earnings.

Warzone should also be headed to mobile – a job listing that went up on Activision’s website in September suggested as much.

CoD Mobile, though, generated around $480 million in player spending, per Sensor Tower. What was one of the most successful mobile launches in history is reported as being the third highest-grossing mobile shooter in the United States, behind Tencent’s PUBG Mobile and Epic’s Fortnite.

The title boasts many features from the CoD franchise that fans should be pretty familiar with. It offers multiplayer action, zombies, and its own battle royale of up to 100 players. Of course, CoD: Mobile offers classic maps and characters.

Players who took part in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Beta can now get a free character for the mobile title. Russel Adler, a new character who came to the fore in Cold War, will be made available to participants via a code that will be sent via email.

Adler is a CIA agent in the upcoming title and is part of the story. He won’t come with any special abilities or bonuses, however, and is simply a skin.
