Call of Duty Modern Warfare Checking for Update Server Error – How to fix?

Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Warzone is down this evening with thousands of players reporting problems with the game's servers.

But more than most players are reporting that they are stuck in an infinite loop with a 'checking for update' error message.

This isn't the first time players have experienced these issues. Here's one user's report on from last month experiencing the same problem:

"I downloaded the warzone update (already had the base game) last weekend and even played a few games. Have been unable to login ever since because the loading screen gets hung at 'checking for update'. Resetting the console, quitting and re-launching the game, signing out from my profile and signing back in didn't work. Does anyone know anything else I can try? Really don't want to re-install the whole game"

It doesn't appear then, that there's any solution right now.

And for those lucky enough not to be experiencing this issue, there's also the server problems that have placed users into massive server queues to log back in.

Somewhat frustratingly the Activision support website is also experiencing trouble right now.

The website displays an error message which reads:

"THE SITE HIT A BRICK WALL – We’re dusting it off and working to get it back up and running as quickly as possible."

It’s unclear what has caused tonight’s problems or how long the server issues might last.

Activision Support (@ATVIAssist) has yet to address the issues or explain if there is a fix on the way.

More to follow.
