The next Call of Duty Modern Warfare update, likely update 1.09, is coming this week and will once more provide plenty of fixes to the games increasingly popular multiplayer mode.
Following the last update to the game, v1.08, Ashton Williams, Infinity Ward’s senior communications manager, took to Twitter to say:
"Working a patch that includes fixes for a good handful of challenges and officer progression bugs."
That was last week, but earlier today, whilst responding to fans online who were raising a few issues, Williams also stated:
"This week. Currently being tested."
Likewise, David Mickner (@DavidMickner) a Multiplayer Designer at Infinity Ward also stated that the team were working on releasing an update at some point this week, writing:
"Mood #ModernWarfare ( we're working on getting updates out this week to address issues, improve the game and bring new content )"

The most recent update to the game was specifically to target crashes on PC, but we would assume that the next download will be for all platforms, including PS4 and Xbox One players.
Whilst not official there are a number of fixes we're expecting to see implemented, based on several comments from studio devs who have hinted at some of the fixes currently in the works.
As per the team at Charlie Intel, the next big download for Call of Duty Modern Warfare will likely address the following:
- Kill feed changes that will remove some of the notifications like “…avenged you” to allow for collats and other kill chains to show up clean in the feed
- Many bug fixes and updates to challenges and officer rank progression challenges – there’s a lot of challenges that are not tracking properly still. This upcoming update is expected to resolve many of these.
- Potential updates to the tanks in Ground War. Infinity Ward dev confirmed that they’re working on nerfing them, but it was not mentioned as to when to expect it.
- Other Weapon tuning updates – possible more changes to the 725, amongst other updates.
It's worth noting that the last big update for Call of Duty Modern Warfare dropped early last week on Tuesday. Prior to that the last big update was released on a Saturday overnight.
Moving forward though, it seems as though the team at Infinity Ward will be more mindful of when they make these changes.

Following the release of the 1.08 update, some fans were less than pleased that the team at Infinity Ward were releasing updates in the middle of the night.
Although, I guess that's middle of the night for those in the United States.
We've not been keeping a record but we'll assume Charlie Intel have double-checked, because they state that the updates have normally released between 3AM ET – 4AM ET"
One comment put to Ashton Williams read:
"Quick question if able to comment, are there going to be more set times for updates in the future? These 2am updates got me sleep deprived. Thanks as always"
To which the senior communications manager replied:
"In the future, yes. We’ll get on a different schedule that’s more consistent as we go."
It's not clear exactly when this new schedule could come into force, but should the developer revert to the usual times we've seen, which is something closer to 12PM ET – 1PM ET, then keep an eye out for updates later today at around 17:00pm GMT and 18:00pm GMT.

PS4 free game news: Major PlayStation console exclusive is free to play all week
News of this latest Call of Duty Modern Warfare update comes after it was revealed that a brand new 200 player Battle Royale mode is in the works for the game.
The information comes via the same Reddit user known as Senescallo, who for anyone who doesn't know, has previously leaked a lot of the games unreleased features since the game first launched.
Based on the information available, it sounds even more intriguing as the battle royale mode could feature some sort of mechanic that would allow players to respawn once per game.
But only after fighting a 1-on-1 single round match in a Gulag Prison Camp.
As with most leaks, it's impossible to verify the information and Activision would surely deny its existence until an official announcement is made. So stay tuned for more news as it becomes available.
