The Carolina Panthers put together an extra special announcement video for their 2019 schedule, and it’s filled with homages to video games.
The Panthers’ media team posted about the video on their official website, noting that many consider this video announcement among the best the NFL had to offer this year, which included an ASMR spoof from the Dallas Cowboys, a compilation of stock footage from the LA Chargers, and more. The Panthers’ video can be seen below.
Many of the references coincide with each matchup the Panthers will have throughout the 2019 season. For instance, the week three matchup involves the car select screen from Cruis’n USA, with one car being the Panthers and another the Cardinals driving to Arizona for an away game, and week eight sees the Panthers in The Oregon Trail, traveling to the San Francisco 49ers Levi’s Stadium in another away game.
References throughout the video include a classic SEGA opening screen, Pitfall, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Madden NFL, a Halo loading screen for the bye week, Pokemon Go, GoldenEye 007, Super Mario Kart, Pac-Man, Sonic the Hedgehog, Words with Friends, Mortal Kombat and more.
