Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Will Feature Characters From The Game

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners story will be canon for the Cyberpunk 2077 universe and that the Netflix anime series will also include characters from the game.

During today's Night City Wire special episode, the creators shared some additional details for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a ten-episode anime show premiering on Netflix on September 13. According to the studio, you don't have to be familiar with Cyberpunk 2077 at all to enjoy the show, as it tells an entirely original story. However, there's even more to it for dedicated fans.

First, Edgerunners is confirmed to be 100 percent canon for the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, which explains new anime-inspired content like missions and weapons coming to the game. For Cyberpunk players, Night City will "feel like home" in the anime, as Studio Trigger closely recreated the streets and corners of the futuristic megacity for the project.

Additionally, despite David Martinez's story taking place before the events of V's journey, CDPR has revealed that viewers can expect familiar faces to make an appearance in the series.

So far, the creators did not reveal all the details, so we can only guess who'll be the stars of both Cyberpunk 2077 and Edgerunners. It's unlikely key characters from the game like Judy Alvarez or Jackie Welles will have a major role in the upcoming show, but we can probably expect some minor figures to appear. For instance, it's almost a safe bet that Rogue Amendiares from the Afterlife bar will show up. Considering Johnny Silverhand is a big part of the Cyberpunk universe, it's also natural to expect Edgerunners to have at least some references to the influential rocker boy as well.

Last, but not least, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will feature a full English voice-over among 12 different languages in total, and more in subtitles. CDPR announced that new characters will be dubbed by Zach Aguilar and Giancarlo Esposito among others.

And don't forget to check out the debut trailer for Cyberpunk 2077's long-awaited DLC named Phantom Liberty right here. The story expansion will be coming in 2023 with Keanu Reeves returning as Johnny Silverhand.
