Anime production company Toei Animation has announced that the new adaptation of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai is set to air on Saturday, October 3, across a variety of streaming platforms.

Toei shared a few announcement trailers in September that provided a glimpse of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai’s animation style and opening theme. The series blends traditional 2D animation with modern CG elements. Meanwhile, the opening, “Ikiru o Suru,” is performed by Macaroni Enpitsu. Check out the official poster below.
Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai is based on Riku Sanjo’s 1989 manga series of the same name. As its name suggests, the series follows a young boy named Dai who must defeat the Demon King Hadlar, a ferocious being that has unleashed a slew of monsters onto the world. An anime adaption originally aired in 1991 and contained 46 episodes.
Japanese video game company Square Enix announced back in May 2020 that a video game adaption of Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai will launch in 2021. Titled Infinity Strash – Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai, Square Enix shared a teaser trailer showing off some gameplay and the characters Dai will encounter on his journey. No Western release date or confirmed platforms have been revealed for the game as of yet.
