Fortnite season 4 iOS WARNING: Millions of iPhone and iPad players to miss out on update

Fortnite season 4 release date is fast approaching, but unlike past Battle Pass launches Apple iPhone and iPad players won’t be able to download the huge new update. For over two years now Fortnite has been playable on iOS devices, with Apple iPhone and iPad players able to experience the excitement of many new season launches, live events or the thrill of a Battle Royale match. But for the first time since Fortnite Mobile launched on iOS back in March 2018, Apple gamers will NOT be able to take part in the latest season of Fortnite.

If you haven’t heard already, Fortnite makers Epic Games are involved in a dispute with Apple and Google surrounding in-app purchases.

Earlier this month Epic added their own payments system to Fortnite, bypassing the one that Apple and Google uses which gives them a 30 percent slice of every transaction.

In response to this Apple took Fortnite off the App Store, with Google removing the hugely popular free game from their Play Store not long after that.

In the aftermath Epic filed lawsuits against both Apple and Google, with the court cases rumbling on as we speak.

But the blocks that Apple and Google have enforced are impacting Fortnite players on iOS and Android in different ways.

Epic Games has said that not only have Apple removed Fortnite from their App Store, but they’ve also blocked the ability for the game to be updated.

Which means when Fortnite season 4 rolls around millions of iOS players around the world will not be able to get the highly anticipated 14.00 patch.

Fortnite players on iOS will still be able to play Battle Royale via the 13.40 patch, which was the last one released before the game was taken off the App Store.

However, iPhone and iPad gamers will not be able to get any of the new content – such as new Battle Pass skins and challenges – coming in the next season.

The news was revealed in a blog post by Epic Games who said: “Apple has blocked Fortnite from the App Store, removing everyone’s ability to install and update the game on iOS devices, while instructing Epic to “remove the ‘Epic direct payment’ feature.” Apple is keeping prices high so they can collect 30 percent of your payments, and is blocking Fortnite in order to prevent Epic from passing on the savings from direct payments to you! They added: “Because Apple has BLOCKED your ability to update, when Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 4 releases you will NOT be able to play the new Season on iOS.”

Epic Games went onto say: “If you already downloaded Fortnite via the App Store, you should have no issues continuing to play Chapter 2 – Season 3’s 13.40 update — whether you’re only playing on mobile devices or also playing the latest version of Fortnite on other devices.

“Once Chapter 2 – Season 4 begins, players accessing Fortnite will still be able to play the 13.40 version of Fortnite, but will not be able to access any new content or the new Battle Pass. Cosmetic purchases will still work across all platforms.”

For Fortnite fans on Android, the block will impact them differently.

While Fortnite was available to download on the Google Play Store, it was first released on Android via the Epic Games website.

So Android gamers can still download the latest version of Fortnite via this site. Click here to visit the page you need to head to.

Fortnite remains available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, Mac, GeForce Now, and the Epic Games app on Android.

Earlier this week a US judge ruled that Apple can continue to block Fortnite from its App Store.

However, the iPhone and iPad makers cannot block Epic Games’ Unreal Engine – which is used by many third-party developers.

In her ruling Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers wrote: “Epic Games and Apple are at liberty to litigate against each other, but their dispute should not create havoc to bystanders”.

A further hearing will be taking place on Monday September 28.
