There are plenty of rumours about what’s coming in Fortnite season 9 with a brand new map possibly launching alongside new skins and challenges.
Teasers have hinted season 9 of Fortnite could bring a futuristic theme to Battle Royale on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, iOS, PCs and Macs.

FORTNITE SEASON 9 – WHEN IS THE FORTNITE SEASON 9 RELEASE DATE? WHAT IS THE START TIME? WHEN WILL SERVERS GO DOWN?
Fortnite season 9 has a release date of Thursday May 9 on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, PCs and Macs.
Epic Games has not revealed a start time for Fortnite season 9 but there’s an in-game countdown showing how much time is left in season 8.
And the countdown points towards Fortnite season 8 having a finish time of 8.30am UK time.
If that’s the case then it looks like Fortnite season 9 will follow past release schedules.
Express.co.uk expects Fortnite servers to go down around 8.30am UK time before the Fortnite season 9 patch is released around 9am UK time.
It’s likely Fortnite season 9 patch notes as well as the first Fortnite season 9 trailer will drop around then too.
FORTNITE SEASON 9 – WILL THERE BE A NEW MAP? WHAT DOES THE FORTNITE NEO TEASER MEAN?
In the lead-up to the Fortnite season 9 release date Epic Games has been revealing teasers on Twitter.
In total three Fortnite season 9 teasers have been released, each one showing an upcoming new Fortnite season 9 skin.
Emblazoned on each Fortnite season 9 teaser was a letter, with all the letters spelling out the word ‘neo’.
This means “new or recent, or in a modern form”, according to the Cambridge Dictionary.
The messages posted alongside these teasers hint that Fortnite season 9 will have a futuristic theme, which could be seen in new POIs or a fresh map.
The most recent and final Fortnite season 9 teaser was posted on Twitter alongside the message: “The Future is Tilted.”
Other Fortnite season 9 teasers said “The Future is Bright” and “The Future is Unknown”.
At the moment there are two theories as to what this could all mean for Fortnite season 9.
One theory is that Tilted Towers is about to get replaced with a futuristic version of the popular POI.
Alternatively, maybe Tilted Towers will turn into the gateway for a brand new map that will replace the current one.
Epic Games has long said that they have new Fortnite maps in the works.
Answering the question “will you add more maps” in a post online, the Fortnite makers said: “Yes, but not right away.
“Currently, we’ll continue making improvements to our existing map, including adding more points of interest.”
This FAQ answer has appeared online for most of 2018 and for all of 2019 so far, so maybe the time has finally come for one of these new maps to get added?
FORTNITE SEASON 9 – ALL SOUNDS GREAT, IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW?
There is one other surprise feature that could launch during Fortnite season 9.
Fans have long heard rumours of a Fortnite leviathan or kraken creature appearing on the Battle Royale map.
And maybe the murmurs about these creatures are tied into another rumour – that boss battles are getting added to Fortnite.
Epic Games previously tested having an iceberg with a huge amount of health that players had to bring down to zero HP.
This mechanic also made an appearance during the rune event when players had to band together to chip away at the health of a rune.
Maybe the next step to this is to have a powerful enemy that spawns on the Battle Royale map that players need to group together to attack?
Having something like this in Battle Royale would be unprecedented and would hugely shake-up the experience Fortnite players have come to know and love.
It remains to be seen if this much-rumoured boss battle feature launches during Fortnite season 9, or during another Battle Pass, or at all.
