Control has been one of the surprise hits of 2019 and as such was duly nominated for The Game Awards 2019 in the Game of the Year category alongside Death Stranding, Resident Evil 2 and many more.
However, there's some confustion this week as to whether the game is coming to Xbox Games Pass.
Originally Xbox head Phil Spencer announced on a Mixer Stream that the game was coming, adding:
"I thought Control was really good. It didn't reach enough people so I'm glad to see that it's coming in to Game Pass so hopefully more people will play it"
However, it now appears this might have been a mistake.
505 Games, who published the game by Remedy Entertainment has looked to squash rumours and clarified that the information about Control coming to Games Pass “is incorrect.”
“We have no news or announcements regarding Xbox Game Pass at this time,” said the company in a statement sent to VG247 earlier this afternoon.
Likewise, Microsoft has also moved to distance themselves from the error, saying:
“We’re aware that “Control” was mentioned as coming to the Xbox Game Pass library and can confirm this was in error. While we are always updating the library and looking for new ways to provide our members with value and choice in their games, we do not have plans to bring “Control” to the library at this time.”
So that is that. For the time being it seems as though Control is not coming to Xbox Games Pass .
For what it's worth we thought Control was a fantastic game, one of the best of the year and as such awarded it 4 stars in our Control review back in August.
We'd certainly recommend players pick up the game this Christmas, either as a present for a friend looking to play something a little different, or even yourself if you're intrigued by what you've seen and head already.
