Tomb Raider has become the latest video game series to be adapted for Netflix, as a direct sequel to the reboot trilogy of games.
Lara Croft has made it to the silver screen three times already but now she’s about to make her television debut, with a new animated show on Netflix.
Details are thin on the ground at the moment, as the show was only announced via a tweet from Netflix, with no indication of the animation house or who any of the voice talent might be.
The one detail that was shared though is that the game will be a direct sequel to the events of the reboot trilogy, which ended with 2018’s Shadow Of The Tomb Raider.
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider was a pretty good game, as was the rest of the trilogy, but the weakest element was undoubtedly the nonsensical story and weak characterisation for Lara.
On that basis, following on directly doesn’t seem such a good idea but if the show writers, who are probably going to be different to the games’, can add a bit of character to Lara, and a decent story, that would be very welcome.
Apart from a mobile game this is the first time there’s been any mention of a new Tomb Raider since the release of Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, which seemed to be neither a massive success nor a major failure.
