The mere mention of an in-game currency is often enough to set off alarm bells in gamers’ minds, which may be the case for those who heard Marvel’s Avengers would have a credit system to purchase items through the game’s marketplace. However, there’s more than one way to earn credits if you know what to do.
Like it or not, Marvel’s Avengers is a games-as-a-service title and, as such, does have an in-game currency system split between credits and units you can use to unlock various things in-game. Units are the more simple of the two, only earned and spent in-game on things like Hero Challenge cards. Credits are a little more complex, but not too different from similar systems used in other games. Here’s how it all breaks down.
How To Earn Credits In Marvel’s Avengers
There are two ways you can earn credits in Marvel’s Avengers, and a suite of cosmetic options you can spend them on. Thankfully you can completely avoid paying for them, although you may be tempted to depending on how much you like some of the cosmetic options available.
If you don’t want to waste any time and just get what you want from the marketplace right away, the option to purchase credits with real world money is there for you. There are several options for how you can buy credits, starting at $5 for 500 credits and maxing out at $100 for 13,000 credits. If you purchase any amount larger than 500, such as 2,000, 5,000, or the largest of 10,000 you will get an extra 200, 1,500, and 3,000 credits respectively with your purchase.
If you’d rather not pull out your wallet to buy that new skin or emote, you can earn credits just by playing the game itself. If you go to a vendor in-game and use the other currency type, units, you can purchase special Hero Challenge cards. Each card will have milestones you can complete, similar to a battlepass, that includes various rewards including credits. The game will have specific Hero Challenge cards for every available hero, including new ones when additional heroes are added to the game.
Bear in mind that purchasing the Hero Challenge cards with units will not allow you to unlock any of the premium rewards. If you want to earn everything available on the cards you will need to purchase them with credits. However, if you do spend the 1,000 credits on the Hero Challenge card and complete it, you will be able to earn back that 1,000 credits you spent on it through the challenges.
