Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 won't release this year says Activision

Activision Blizzard’s recent earnings call has confirmed that neither Overwatch 2 nor Diablo 4 are expected until 2022 at the earliest.

With the BlizzCon Online event taking place later this month, fans are expecting new information on Overwatch 2, as promised by director Jeff Kaplan.

However, the first bit of news has come from Activision Blizzard’s recent earnings call and it’s that the game probably won’t launch until after 2021.

To be more specific, it states that it doesn’t expect to include Overwatch 2 as part of its 2021 financials, which indicates that it won’t be coming out this year.

And though support for the original Overwatch has continued, new content has very noticeably slowed down, no doubt due to Blizzard focusing more on the sequel.

The same can be said about Diablo 4, which was announced around the same time as Overwatch 2 and also probably won’t be releasing until 2022 at the earliest.

It seems likely that the current pandemic and move to working from home has affected development, with the initial implication being that Overwatch would be out fairly soon.

Given how little these games have been talked about since their announcements, it’s also likely that Blizzard wants to take its time with them.

Last year’s Warcraft 3: Reforged was very clearly rushed out and was met with criticism for being riddled with bugs and missing features. No doubt Blizzard has learned its lesson as a result.

Hopefully, both games should have new trailers at BlizzCon Online, which is taking place from February 19 to February 20.

Overwatch 2 is scheduled for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Diablo 4 is scheduled for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
