Though we’re focused on giving you combat information in our guides, by nature, they still contain spoilers for the plot of Persona 3 Portable.

Emperor And Empress' Stats And Attacks

While you'll find they have a skill that changes the information we have listed below, these are the initial affinities and weaknesses of Emperor and Empress, as well as a list of their skills.

When using these charts, keep in mind where you are in the battle, and whether the shadows have just used Paradigm Shift to change their affinities.

If you're ever in doubt, it's always safer to ask Fuuka to analyze them again than to guess and waste your turn.

Recommended Level

Both the Emperor and Empress are Lv. 16 for your fight with them, so it’s wise to be at least Lv. 15 for a fair chance in combat.

How To Navigate Tartatus

When you arrive in Tartarus, the group decides to split up to look for the key to the gymnasium. You’re given a choice of whom to bring with you – Yukari or Akihiko.

It doesn’t seem to matter who you pick to bring with you; just choose whichever of the two characters you like better.

After finding the gym key, head back to the main lobby of the school to meet back up with the group, where you devise a plan to divide and conquer. Yukari and Mitsuru are staying behind, while you, Junpei, and Akihiko head into Tartarus to find Fuuka.

When you appear in Tartarus, the group has been split up. You find yourself alone on an unmarked floor of the Arqa block.

You have a brief conversation with the Mysterious Boy, who appears at the dorms to tell you about the Dark Hour, and then you’re free to run around Tartarus after speaking with him.

Communication is spotty, but your overall goal here is to reunite with Akihiko and Junpei. To do this, you’ll need to wander through Tartarus alone.

Shadows are still milling about in Tartarus as normal, so be prepared to fight if you bump into any!

You hear another voice cutting into Mitsuru’s broken communications as you go, eventually finding the staircase. There are two floors to navigate alone before you locate Akihiko and Junpei on the third. Afterward, you'll meet Fuuka before heading back downstairs to help your teammates.

Emperor And Empress Battle Strategy

Back at the entrance to Tartarus, not only are your teammates being attacked, but Natsuki enters the Dark Hour, desperate to apologize to Fuuka after being summoned by the voice.

The boss shadows focus on Natsuki, and in a bid to protect her, Fuuka awakens to her Persona, and the battle begins.

As soon as the fight starts, ask Fuuka to evaluate the two shadows. She’ll reveal their weaknesses and affinities, which are exactly opposite one another.

When the fight starts:

  • Emperor will be weak to magic attacks.
  • Empress will be weak to physical attacks.

This means that multi-target moves, while their affinities are like this, should be avoided.

We had the best luck focusing on Empress first. The only magic she uses herself is wind, to which Junpei is weak, so lay into her with physical moves and dispatch her quickly.

However, both shadows can cause a Paradigm Shift, which switches their affinities around. If one of them uses it, their affinities are reversed.

Be aware of whether they've used the move, as the changes to their affinities can make or break your battle.

As we mentioned in the section where we listed their affinities, each time a Paradigm Shift occurs, have Fuuka scan Emperor and Empress. This battle is meant to showcase her more advanced analytics skills, so make ample use of them.

Once you have their affinities and weaknesses pinned down, keep afloat with their changes and hammer on them with everything you’ve got.

The group leaves Tartarus following the Full Moon Bosses' defeat, and a few days later, Fuuka joins the SEES Team, taking up the role of your comms expert and freeing Mitsuru up for use in battle the next time you go to Tartarus after Fuuka settles in.
