Pillars Of Eternity Switch Patch Will Finally Bring It In Line With The PC Version

A new patch for Pillars of Eternity on Nintendo Switch will fix a number of outstanding issues with the game, bringing it in line with the original PC version of the game.

Pillars of Eternity is a series of isometric RPGs in the vein of the old Black Isle D&D games, like Baldur’s Gate and Planescape Torment. The PC versions of Pillars of Eternity and its sequel run like a dream, but the same cannot be said for the console ports. The PS4 version of Pillars of Eternity 2 suffered from severe loading issues, though you can finally alleviate these through the backward compatibility feature on PS5.

The Nintendo Switch port of the original Pillars of Eternity was notoriously dreadful, thanks to a number of performance issues and glitches. The Switch port was released back in 2019, and it’s finally due to receive a patch that will fix all of the issues with the game, bringing it in line with the PC version. According to Versus Evil, this patch is undergoing the final approval process, but it should be released soon.

The patch will fix all know stability issues with the game, improve the overall performance, and makes the ranged attacks/spells work as intended. You won’t need to create a new save file, as the patch will work with any saves made before it’s applied. The patch is also very big, and it will bring the overall size of the game to 29GB. This means the game is bigger than the internal storage of the Nintendo Switch, so you’ll need a microSD in order to play it.

Pillars of Eternity 2 has yet to be released on Nintendo Switch, despite already being released on PS4 and Xbox One. It has been theorized that the delay is due to performance issues. If the Switch port of Pillars of Eternity can be brought in line with the other versions of the game, then it’s possible that the delay is due to the same work being done on the sequel.
