PlayStation State Of Play Today: Watch Here, PS5 Games, Everything Shown

Sony has announced its next State of Play stream, took place today, Thursday, August 6, at 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET. Sony says the stream will be 40 minutes in total. But while all eyes are on PS5 as we prepare to usher in the next generation, the company has already set expectations by stating that this event won’t focus on the new console.

You can watch the stream right here.

What Was Shown And Announced

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

Toys For Bob opened the show with a look at Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, showing off the area Insanity Beach. It also highlighted wall-running and other abilities in the platforming as well as the new look for the characters. Outfits have also been added, and you can earn them throughout the game. There are no microtransactions, either, and you’ll be able to play as multiple characters, including Dingodile. There is also a new “Inverted mode” that changes up the feel of the game.

Hitman 3

IO Interactive made an appearance at the event with Hitman 3. The game will feature a PlayStation VR mode in first-person perspective, giving you a whole new way to experience its creative assassinations. All three games’ content will support the mode.

Braid: Anniversary Edition

The next game shown during the presentation featured live-action footage–or something resembling it–and featured a several examples of time progressing and regressing. As it turns out, the creative trailer was for Braid: Anniversary Edition, and it is coming out in 2021. Areas have been changed to make them look more like paintings.

The Pathless

Giant Squid’s The Pathless was shown with gameplay captured on a PS5. A mythic adventure game set in a forest, it features a creative archery mechanic that fills a meter used for quickly traversing across the landscape. Timing replaces aiming down sights in the traditional sense, allowing you to stay in constant motion. You can also fly by making use of a bird friend, but you need to pet it in order to keep it in top shape.

Microsoft is also expected to hold another Xbox event sometime in August, hot on the heels of its late July presentation that saw the gameplay reveal of Halo Infinite. It has been suggested that Microsoft’s event will be focused on its heavily-rumored second next-gen console, codenamed Lockhart, but no official announcement has been made yet.
