Pokémon GO: You Can Catch Shiny Charizard During Today’s Raid Day

December is a busy month for Pokémon GO. The current offering is the Evolution Event, which hands out evolution items like the rare Unova Stone. Next weekend will be the Community Day weekend, two whole days of special spawns for both 2019 and 2018’s spotlight shiny Pokémon. There will also likely be some kind of winter event featuring Ice-type Pokémon towards the end of the month. Before that, however, is a special raid day where trainers can catch all the original starter Pokémon in shiny form. And it’s today.

If you’re reading this before 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, then you’re in luck. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m in your local time zone, the Kanto starters and their evolutions will be appearing in raids. Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle will be in one-star raids. Ivysaur, Charmeleon, and Wartortle will be in two-star raids. And Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise will be in four-star raids. The best part is that each and every one has a chance to be shiny.

That fact makes this raid day unique, as both evolved and un-evolved Pokémon from the same family will be shiny on the same day. Usually it’s one or the other. Now trainers will have the chance to get an entire set of shinies or just go right for their favorite. Charizard is bound to be a popular choice as it’s an extremely beloved Pokémon and has one of the better shiny colorings.

There one obstacle to the dream of getting all the shinies – raid passes are limited. Players need raid passes to participate in these special raids. Fortunately, Niantic will give out five raid passes on Saturday. All players have to do is spin five Poké Stops between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. More can always be bought with Poké Coins, but that’s up to the player’s discretion.

Shiny Pokémon are one of the biggest reasons to keep current with Pokémon GO, even if they’re diminishing the franchise as a whole. This raid day is a big deal because it’s giving players a chance to get one of the greatest shinies of all. Let’s just hope the weather (and luck) prove kind this afternoon.
