Pokemon Scarlet & Violet: How To Check IVs

In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, your Pokemon's stats are more important than ever. To defeat 5-star and 6-star Tera Raid battles, you'll need to be maximizing the efficiency of your Pokemon's stats, which means breeding perfect IV Pokemon and training their EVs correctly.

Essentially, IVs are your Pokemon's base stat potential. The higher the IV, the higher that stat has the potential to be through leveling up. If you're wondering how to see this information for yourself, you've come to the right place. Here, we'll take a look at how to unlock the Judge function, and how to check your team's IVs.

How To Get The Judge Function

The Judge Function, used to check your Pokemon's IVs, is not unlocked by default. Instead, you will need to play through the whole game, until you see the credits and the "The End" screen. After watching an additional short cutscene after the credits, go to any Pokemon Center and heal your Pokemon.

Once your team's health has been restored, Nurse Joy will let you know that the Judge Function is now unlocked.

How To Check IVs

To check your Pokemon's IVs, open your box and select the desired Pokemon. Then, press the + button once or twice to cycle the information to the Judge Function screen. Here, you can see the IVs of each of your Pokemon's stats, ranging from No Good to Best. The exact numbers that each of these phrases corresponds to are detailed below.

  • Best – 31
  • Fantastic – 30
  • Very Good – 26-29
  • Pretty Good – 16-25
  • Decent – 1-15
  • No Good – 0

IVs are randomly generated when you catch or hatch the Pokemon, but they can still be changed later using Bottle Caps. These numbers don't actually tell you how strong that particular stat is currently, but rather how strong that stat has the potential to be. The higher the IV, the higher that stat can be once it has been fully EV-trained or fed stat-boosting items like Protein.
