The Pokemon TCG has tons of various decks that enter the Standard metagame through the years. With rotation occurring in each format, decks come and go with each cycle. One of the decks in the current metagame uses Pikachu & Zekrom-GX as their main playmaker.
Electric Pokemon aren’t usually something that does well considered most of them require a lot of Electric Energy rather than Colorless. However, with the usage of Pikachu & Zerom-GX, this downside can be completely ignored. The card can easily ramp up a ton of Energy advantage while doing hefty amounts of damage. The Electric-type relies heavily on Energy cards, so this is what makes the deck so great.
10 Vikavolt V
Vikavolt V is one of the best Electric-type V Pokemon. Its Super Zap Cannon move is a little hefty, requiring 2 Energy cards to be discarded from it to use and only doing 190 damage (which will rarely knock out a Pokemon).
However, Vikavolt V’s power comes from its Paralyzing Bolt attack. It only does 50 damage, however, it completely prevents the opponent from using any Item cards from their hand. This stun is fantastic, especially when Item cards as so important in Pokemon. This can slow down your opponent while building up your own tempo.
Switch is simple, allowing you to switch your Active Pokemon with a Benched one for free. The reason it’s so good in a Pikachu & Zekrom-GX deck is that it runs a lot of Pokemon that have very high Retreat Costs.
Energy advantage is one of the most important things in Pokemon, and having a card that keeps all your Energy in play is so good. In addition, Electric decks can’t recover Energy as easily as other decks, which is what makes Switch such a necessity in a Pikachu & Zekrom-GX deck.
8 Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX
Another Tag Team Pokemon, Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX can take advantage of other cards like Switch. This is thanks to its Tandem Shock attack, which causes it to do 160 damage if it was on the Bench when the turn started. It will also Paralyze the opposing Active Pokemon, which completely shuts it down for a turn.
Its GX move Lightning Ride GX, will switch Raichu & Alolan Raichu-GX with one of your Benched Pokemon. It has a respectable 150 damage, and if it has two extra Energy attached to it the damage gets boosted to a fantastic 250.
7 Tag Call
Tag Call is a must-have for any deck that runs Tag Team Pokemon. It adds consistency to it, especially in a Pikachu & Zekrom-GX deck that is low on searchers. Tag Call allows you to search out not one, but two Tag Team cards, of which can even be the same one.
It’s so important to get the cards you need as early as possible. Tag Call helps this goal, all while being able to dump down Tag Team Pokemon onto the field. With this, it makes it easier to draw out cards that support the strategy to boost up said Pokemon that Tag Call searches out.
6 Quick Ball
Quick Ball is the best PokeBall card in the game. At the cost of discarding a card, it can search out any Basic Pokemon from your deck. While going minus 2 in card advantage is a deep cost, the searchability of every card in the Pikachu & Zekrom-GX deck makes it more than worth it.
Pikachu & Zekrom-GX decks don’t run anything but Basic Pokemon, so Quick Ball allows you to search out any Pokemon in the deck at any time. This lets you get to any card you need depending on the field your opponent has and what your hand is.
5 Speed Lightning Energy
Speed Lightning Energy is a fantastic Special Energy, and one of the best in the Standard metagame. When it’s attached from your hand to any Lightning Pokemon, you draw 2 cards. Drawing cards in Pokemon (or any card game for that matter) is seldom ever a bad thing.
It provides Lightning Energy, all while getting you closer to your main playmakers. There’s no downside to playing them either, making it the perfect addition to any Pikachu & Zekrom-GX deck you build. The only downside is that it can’t be played with many generic Energy support cards, but its effect is powerful enough to stand on its own.
4 Eldegoss V
Eldegoss V is one of the most played cards in the entire game. This is because when it’s played from your hand onto the Bench, you can add a Supporter card from your discard pile to your hand. Supporter cards are the best kind of cards in Pokemon, so being able to recycle them is a fantastic ability.
Eldegoss V can even recycle itself back into the deck with its Float Up ability, getting rid of a Pokemon that can easily be taken care of. It also puts it back into the deck to continue to recycle more Supporter cards.
3 Boltund V
Boltund V is one of the few Electric-type Pokemon that can ramp up Energy easily and efficiently. Electrify adds 2 Electric Energy cards and attaches them to the Benched Pokemon in any way.
This can then be comboed with its other attack Bolt Storm. Bolt Storm does 30 more damage for each Lightning Energy attached to all Pokemon. Thanks to the ramping that Boltund V and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX can do, Bolt Storm can reach incredibly high attack numbers, enabling it to be quite the sweeper and destroy the opposing Pokemon quickly with a low commitment on Boltund V itself.
2 Dedenne GX
Dedenne GX is perhaps the most played GX Pokemon in the entire game. Its attacks aren’t anything special, with both only 50 damage. Its GX attack returns itself and all cards attached to it to the hand while Paralyzing the opposing Pokemon.
What Dedenne GX is good for is its Ability Dedechange. When played from the hand to the Bench, it allows you to discard your hand and draw 6 cards. This can be done when you have no cards in your hand, which means Dedenne GX can give you tons of advantage by simply putting it on the Bench.
1 Tapu Koko (Prism Star)
Tapu Koko (Prism Star) is perhaps the best card in the game when it comes to support for Electric-type Pokemon. Its attack isn’t anything special, but its Ability Dance of the Ancients is what makes it so good.
If Tapu Koko is one the Bench, it lets you choose 2 Benched Pokemon and attach a Lighting Energy card from the discard pile to each of them. The downside is it sends all cards attached to it to the Lost Zone. However, Tapu Koko isn’t going to be having anything on it when using the Ability, meaning it gets to use it basically for free.
