Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic sequel is the new number one, but physical sales are down by a quarter compared to the 2011 original.
After three weeks at the top, Days Gone has seen one post-apocalyptic open world game replaced by another. Although the performance of Rage 2 is considerably less impressive than that of Sony’s exclusive.
The game’s physical sales were only a quarter of what the original managed on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. At that time there were no digital sales but even assuming that fully half of Rage 2’s sales went to digital that still means the game sold only half that of the original.
Which is not a good sign when the first game was never particularly successful anyway, and many were surprised that a sequel was greenlit in the first place.
As usual, the PlayStation 4 saw the lion’s share of sales, accounting for 57% of Rage 2’s business, compared to 38% for the Xbox One.
The individual format charts aren’t in yet but A Plague’s Tale: Innocence was able to take advantage of an otherwise quiet week by debuting at number nine in the all formats chart.
Sniper Elite V2 Remastered also appeared at number 13, only 100 sales away from making the top 10. Again, the majority of sales were on the PlayStation 4, at 49%, with the Xbox One on 30% and the Switch on 21%.
This week sees the release of Team Sonic Racing and Total War: Three Kingdoms, although the latter will see almost all its sales digitally – which are not recorded by Chart-Track.
