Resident Evil Village is officially launching on May 7 for PC, current-gen, and last-gen consoles – minus Nintendo Switch. Capcom broke the news during today’s Resident Evil livestream, giving us a closer look at the highly anticipated game.
Before the event, Capcom had only mentioned Resident Evil Village was scheduled to launch in 2021. Fans have been on the edge of their seat for the past few months, waiting for a true reveal from Capcom. And during today’s livestream – hosted by Brittney Brombacher of What’s Good Games – it finally let slip the release date. Resident Evil Village is arriving on May 7. Better yet, it’ll be coming to both PS4 and Xbox One with free upgrades to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Resident Evil Village is the eighth major installment in the nightmare-inducing franchise. It’s set after the events of Resident Evil 7 Biohazard and follows the story of Ethan Winters. He’s moved his family to a peaceful new locale – away from the horrors of their past – hoping to start a new life.
Unfortunately, Ethan’s past has a way of catching up with him. His family is quickly thrown back into the frenzy when Chris Redfield makes an appearance, asking for Ethan’s help. That’s about the extent of the narrative so far, but no doubt it’s piqued our interest. The new, snowy setting looks to be a breath of fresh air, too, and it’ll be exciting to explore every corner of its frigid map.
We also saw a bit more gameplay footage of Resident Evil Village, showing off the bloody first-person shooter in action. The upcoming title looks stunning on next-gen hardware, taking full advantage of the new processing power.
Today’s Resident Evil Village showcase answered a lot of questions, but there’s still so much more yet to be revealed. Thankfully, with a release date of May 7, we don’t have to wait much longer to get our hands on the horrifying game.
Capcom has started 2021 on the right foot, with improved financial forecasts thanks to Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil 3. No doubt things will only get better in the coming months as we inch towards Resident Evil Village’s release, and hype around the title continues to rise.
Resident Evil Village will be available on May 7 for PC and all consoles – minus Nintendo Switch.
