Skate 4 is still happening, as EA announce new studio Full Circle

EA has reconfirmed that a new Skate game is in development, with the developer being a brand-new studio created just for the purpose.

After years of speculation and false rumours EA finally revealed that they’re making a new Skate game last June. Unfortunately, they said almost nothing else, so there’s been no clue as to when it’ll be out or who’s making it – until now.

Rather than using an existing developer EA has announced the formation of a new studio called Full Circle. Technically it’s based in Vancouver but given the times we live in many of the team members will be working remotely from various locations around the world.

Naturally, EA has made up a cringey marketing term to describe this, so according to them Full Circle are ‘geo-diverse’. Still, it’s an increasingly common concept, perhaps most successfully used by Ori And The Will Of The Wisps developers Moon Studios.

The head of Full Circle is former head of Xbox Live Daniel McCulloch, which is handy as EA are already emphasising the game’s community features and content creation.

There’s still zero specific details though, and we don’t even know if the new game will be called Skate 4 but is it a new game and not a remake or a remaster.

‘The fans wished Skate back into existence and we want them involved in the process from development to game launch and beyond. We want them to feel like they are a part of Full Circle’, said McCulloch. ‘We’re all about having fun and making great games that people want to play with their friends.’

Also involved will be Deran Chung and Cuz Parry, who helped create all three of the original games and, apparently, are big fans of dad jokes.

‘We’re so stoked to be back working on Skate,’ they said. ‘Some would say things have come full circle’.

Although there are probably not many people physically there at the moment, EA Vancouver now houses three separate studios: FIFA maker EA Sports, Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order developer Respawn Entertainment, and now Full Circle.
