Spider-Man For Marvel’s Avengers Pushed Back To Summer 2021

Looks like those Spider Senses won’t be tingling anytime soon for Marvel’s Avengers. While Spider-Man is still confirmed as a PlayStation exclusive for the game, everyone’s favorite web-slinger won’t be debuting before Summer 2021.

This news comes after Crystal Dynamics revealed a roadmap for the game that lays out the planned content and additions from this month until “Summer and Beyond”. The roadmap shows that a lot will be happening in Marvel’s Avengers this year, beginning with yesterday’s arrival of a huge next-gen update and the “Future Imperfect” campaign starring Hawkeye.

Later in the Spring, the game will introduce the “Red Room Takeover” and “Tachyon Anomaly” updates. Then in the Summer, new War Zones and Assignments will be available in the “Cosmic Cube” and “Wasteland Patrol” updates. Finally, the roadmap ends with the reveal of the “War for Wakanda” expansion that will add Black Panther to the team’s roster.

In a discussion with IGN, Crystal Dynamics’ head of studio Scot Amos confirmed that Spidey is still planned; “I can tell you that, formally, officially, people are working on him right now…and we still fully expect Spider-Man to come to PlayStation”. Unfortunately, no timeline for when we can expect Spider-Man to appear was given. Though, we won’t be seeing the friendly neighborhood superhero until after Black Panther’s debut. This means that it is likely that Spidey won’t be swinging into the game until Winter 2021 at the earliest.

Spider-Man was initially announced for Marvel’s Avengers back in August of last year. He was to debut as a PlayStation exclusive, something that ruffled many fan’s feathers, sometime in early 2021. However, since his announcement, there has been no news on when to expect Spider-Man. In fact, the only characters introduced to the game so far have been Kate Bishop and now Hawkeye. This lack of playable heroes, and the recent changes to the game’s leveling system, have been met with a lot of negativity from fans.

With the success of 2018’s Spider-Man and last year’s spinoff, Spider-Man: Miles Morales, it would be wise for Marvel’s Avengers to introduce their version of Spider-Man soon. Fans can’t seem to get enough of the web-head and adding him to the roster could be a great boost for the often-criticized game.
