Street Fighter, Tekken, and Guilty Gear News Coming At Evo 2022

Evo will be an in-person event for the first time since before COVID-19 this weekend. The biggest fighting game event on the video game calendar will feature tournaments and a shedload of news about a number of different series. Expect to hear new information regarding the futures of Street Fighter, Guilty Gear, and Tekken, but Mortal Kombat fans have been told to dial back their expectations.

Sony bought Evo last year, so this will be the first time the company has hosted an in-person event under the Evo banner after last year's was made digital-only due to the pandemic. Details about a new element of the weekend named Evo Lounge were shared on the PlayStation blog. What sounds like a key element of the weekend, it promises announcements from Warner Bros, Capcom, Bandai Namco, and more.

Following the blog post going live, IGN's report led with some of the bigger studios announced for Evo Lounge, including some of the games that might be a part of it. On that list was Mortal Kombat, since the series is published by Warner Bros, but its creator Ed Boon was quick to temper expectations. Boon replied to IGN's tweet confirming there would not be any Mortal Kombat news during this weekend's Evo Lounge.

As for Street Fighter, Tekken, Guilty Gear, and a number of other fighting games created by the studios mentioned above, as well as a few others, they will likely be featured during PlayStation's Evo Lounge. With Street Fighter 6 on the horizon and a number of details revealed about it already, Capcom's long-running series seems the most likely to have a big presence during the showcase. Boon even mentioned that it's time for Street Fighter, and other fighting games, to be in the spotlight.

Another game that will have all eyes on it not just during the Evo Lounge but across the entire weekend will be MultiVersus. Not only will MultiVersus players be competing at Evo for the first time, but it seems incredibly likely there will also be a few announcements. MultiVersus's director has also confirmed Bugs Bunny will be getting nerfed after Evo, and Wonder Woman will be getting buffed.
