After bringing NFL Decals to Rocket League in December, Psyonix is now gearing up for some big Super Bowl celebrations. Starting February 2, you’ll find the pigskin-themed NFL Super Bowl LV Celebration Event taking place in Rocket League.
The Super Bowl Event in Rocket League includes a new game mode called Gridiron, Event Challenges, and – if you missed it in December – the NFL Fan Pack. Gridiron is the most intriguing of the bunch, as it turns the regular spherical ball into a football. The action takes place on a “modified Champions Field adorned with yard lines and featuring the NFL Logo.” Psyonix offered a deep dive into the new mode on its blog, and it looks like a fun – albeit, strange – way to prepare for the Big Game.
To go along with the new game mode are new Event Challenges, giving you the chance to unlock the Gridiron Guru Player Title, NFL Wheels, and 20,000 XP. The fun won’t last long, however, as the event ends on February 8.
The NFL Fan Pack will also make an appearance on February 2, giving you a second chance to customize your car with officially licensed Octane Decals of your favorite football teams. The pack is available for 800 Credits in the Item Shop.
Psyonix has been on a roll when it comes to launching interesting new content to Rocket League, and it all started at the end of 2020 when the game switched to a free-to-play model. Since then, we’ve seen the Frosty Fest, the return of Rocket Labs, a collaboration with the X Games, and now a high-octane Super Bowl event. Rocket League’s popularity hasn’t dipped much over the years, although it’s safe to say it’s seeing a resurgence in 2021.
Rocket League’s NFL Super Bowl LV Celebration Event kicks off on February 2 and will run until February 8. Meanwhile, the real Super Bowl takes place on February 7, and will see the Kansas City Chiefs try to defend their title against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
