Trigun Returns In New Anime Series On Crunchyroll In 2023

Of all the classic ‘90s anime, Trigun stands out. The show had an incredible soundtrack, a cyberpunk Western aesthetic, and non-stop action. Trigun is frequently listed as one of the best and most influential anime of all time. And now, it’s coming back.

Trigue Stampede was just announced as a "reborn" series from Studio Orange, the same animation production studio that made both Beastars and Land of the Lustrous. The show will have new staff and feature a new voice cast, and will air on Crunchyroll sometime in 2023. More details will be coming at Anime Expo 2022 on July 2, where series creator Yasuhiro Nightow will be in attendance.

"I'm trailing off on the tremendous response," wrote Nightow on Twitter (with translation courtesy of Google). Nightow first wrote Trigun for Monthly Shonen Champion from 1995 to 1997 before it was produced for television by Madhouse in 1998. There was also the anime movie, Trigun: Badlands Rumble, which was released in 2010.

Trigun centers around the story of Vash the Stampede, also known as "The Humanoid Typhoon." His reputation for being a terrifying outlaw clashes with his self-proclaimed pacifist nature, but despite his best efforts, death and destruction follows Vash wherever he goes. That’s why he’s followed by Meryl and Milly, two insurance adjusters assigned to document Vash’s destructive habits.

We don’t know if Trigun Stampede will remake the original series or if it will be a totally new series set after the events of the first anime. The only image shown by Studio Orange features Vash prominently, so it’s likely safe to assume that he’ll remain the main character in the new series.

Vash returns in Trigun Stampede, coming to Crunchyroll in 2023.There's also a Rick & Morty anime spinoff series coming, but we don't have a release date or platform for that particular project.
