Ubisoft has Plenty of Updates Planned for Space Junkies, Including PlayStation Move Support

Ubisoft finally released its zero-gravity multiplayer shooter Space Junkies last week for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR. If you’ve been enjoying flying around the arenas blasting opponents to smithereens then you’ll be glad to hear the studio has revealed plans to expand the gameplay even further.

Taking to Reddit to update users, Ubisoft has said that next week will see a small patch arrive with ‘some minor bug fixes and balancing adjustments.’ This will be followed by a content update towards the middle of April, although there’s no mention of what will be included. As an online-only experience, the studio does note: “Please be aware that you will be required to install these updates as they become available in order to continue playing online.”

In the case of future updates planned throughout 2019, new gamemodes, maps and characters are all planned to build upon the title, which is certainly challenging videogames like Echo VR for dominance over the online multiplayer market.

Most exciting for PlayStation VR owners is the news that Ubisoft is working on PlayStation Move support, which should bring the gameplay experience more in line with its PC counterparts, instead of having to use the DualShock 4 controller. Again, there’s no confirmed date as to when this feature will appear.

Ubisoft also took the time to explain the in-game currency situation: “We thought we’d clarify the game’s currency system to avoid any confusion. Let us be very clear off the bat: Space Junkies has no microtransactions! The game does feature loot boxes, but the only way to earn them is to level up (i.e. just by playing the game). Every time you receive an item that you already own from a loot box, the duplicate item is converted into currency that can be spent in the in-game store.”

Space Junkies is a fast and frantic FPS set in zero-g arenas. Battles aren’t massive, with two gameplay mode available, PvP and 2 vs 2 matches. Players start with pistols with more weaponry located around the arena, such as mini-guns and rocket launchers. As further details on Space Junkies is released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
