Gearbox has announced it’s bringing the original Borderlands to the current consoles for the first time, and it’s happening soon. Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition is set to release on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 3. It has 4K HDR graphics, split-screen co-op for up to four players, plus a number of quality-of-life updates. It also comes with all four DLC packs that accompanied the game originally.

Borderlands: GotY Edition is available in physical form exclusively at GameStop. If you’re keen to relive 2009’s happy memories of blasting enemies and acquiring loot on Pandora, you can preorder a copy here:

  • Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for PS4 – $29.99
  • Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for Xbox One – $29.99

PC gamers can get an even sweeter deal. If you own the game on Steam by April 3, you’ll get the update for free. So grab it now while it’s on sale at Amazon and wait for the update.

  • Borderlands for PC – $7.50

As for what’s different about this version of the game, Gearbox says it will have new Legendary weapons, cosmetic heads, an onscreen mini-map, the ability to lock and mark items as junk, and automatic loot pick-ups. Also, the final boss will be tweaked to be “more engaging, challenging, and rewarding.” If you already own the game on Steam, the update will be free.

Though many have released since, Borderlands is one of the first co-op loot shooters. In IGN’s Borderlands review, Charles Onyett wrote, “With the opportunity for up to four to join together for co-operative play, four character classes, a dizzying array of firearms, around 20 or so hours of content for a single playthrough and the option to restart with stronger enemies and loot, there’s plenty of content here. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable journey that offers a steady stream of rewards that remains convenient and accessible. It’s something action role-playing game fans looking for an experience more up-close and brutal than genre entries of the third-person variety should have a blast with, and one of the more memorable products of 2009.”

Gearbox also announced Borderlands 3 without offering much information, but said more details will be revealed on April 3. Additionally, Borderlands: The Handsome Collection will get a free 4K update on Xbox One and PS4.
