Bloodstained’s launch trailer shows off playable Shovel Knight, teases Child of Light

Game designer Koji Igarashi’s spiritual successor to his style of Castlevania games, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, is now available on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version due out on June 25. A launch trailer for the game hints at what’s to come, including a playable cameo from Shovel Knight and a tease that content based on Ubisoft’s Child of Light is coming to the game.

The trailer might spoil an interesting looking boss fight or two, but it serves to show off the breadth of content coming to the crowdfunded game. Players will have a variety of modes, character customization items, and bonus content at their disposal in Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and Igarashi promises even more.

In an amusing torture scene, “Iga” talks about 13 pieces of downloadable content coming to Bloodstained. Those free updates will include online and local co-op, versus mode, a roguelike mode, boss rush, Chaos mode, and Nightmare difficulty. Secret playable characters, like Shovel Knight, no stranger to side hustling in other games, are also shown. A musical hint from Béatrice Martin’s Child of Light soundtrack at the end of today’s trailer make it seem like Aurora from Ubisoft’s 2014 game will join the playable roster.

Bloodstained is also getting paid DLC in the form of the Iga’s Back Pack, in which players can fight Igarashi himself to earn the swordwhip weapon.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night stars Miriam, a hero who ventures into a demon-infested castle set in 18th century England. Here, she hopes to defeat the evil Gebel to not only free herself from a terrible curse, but save humanity as well. Igarashi brought his “Igavania” game to Kickstarter nearly four years ago, where the game ultimately raised more than $5.5 million in crowdfunding donations.
