The Sims 4 finally embraces the tiny home trend

Any HGTV devotee is familiar with the tiny home — a purposefully small living space designed for people who want to minimize the amount of stuff in their lives. (This is very different from the tiny homes many of us city dwellers live in because we can’t afford rising rents.)

The Sims 4 players have been enamored with tiny homes for a while; there’s some real satisfaction in creating an efficient, small space where everything just fits. The tiny home community in The Sims 4 is massive, and now Electronic Arts is creating a stuff pack aligned with their compact ideals, the Tiny Living Stuff Pack. EA revealed the new pack on Twitter this morning — it’s coming to PC and Mac on Jan. 21 and to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Feb. 4.

“Everyone knows tiny living is more than just a trend right now — it’s a movement,” EA wrote on The Sims 4 site. “It’s ecological, less expensive, and infinitely cozier than living large, and it’s time for your Sims to celebrate this lifestyle in style.”

The Tiny Living Stuff Pack is bringing with it a bunch of new furniture and decorative items, including the long-desired murphy bed. The murphy bed in the new trailer really touches on one of my big fears — the bed flipping up while I’m sleeping. (Other space-saving items will be added, too.) Continuing the tiny trend, there’s a new residential lot trait coming with the pack; the trait forces players to create a space in under 100 tiles.

EA also said it’s leaning into the cozy feel of the tiny home by adding “chunky knits for the ultimate indulgence in sweater weather.” That’s cool and all, but I’m still waiting for the arts and crafts pack that won The Sims 4’s community vote last year. Knitting… now that’s cozy.
