How and Where to Stream Game of Thrones Season 8

If you missed last week’s episode, The Battle of Winterfell, you’ve probably spent this week dodging spoilers. Give yourself a break and sign up for HBO streaming so you can browse social media without fear, and prepare yourself for the next episode while you’re at it.

Episode 4 of Game of Thrones season 8 airs Sunday, May 5 at 9PM ET. You can watch it the second it airs on traditional cable, and the good news is you don’t need an HBO Now subscription (although that’s one way to do it). You don’t even need cable. Streaming HBO has never been easier.

If you’re a new subscriber, you can go back and stream every Game of Thrones episode without paying a cent during the 7-day free trial period. That’s purely hypothetical: you’d need to spend almost 10 hours each day of the trial to catch every episode. Sign up for a trial of one of the services listed below and brace yourself: winter is coming. If you can make it through every single episode of every single season before the trial ends, it’s an incredible accomplishment.

Stream Game of Thrones on Amazon Prime

UK users: Get Amazon Prime on Amazon (UK)

If you already have Amazon Prime, adding an HBO subscription to your Prime Video channels is $14.99 a month and you can sign up for a 7-day free trial. Prime has a much nicer interface than HBO Now, making binge watching more enjoyable. It’s much easier to skip the Game of Thrones intro through Prime Video. There are some cool additions to the opening, so it’s worth watching at least once, but sometimes you just want to get right into the action.

The Prime subscription itself is $12.99 per month, but if you’re a new subscriber you can get 30 days of Prime for free and then stack the HBO on Prime 7-day trial. That’s more than long enough to catch up on episodes you might have missed from Game of Thrones season 8, and Sunday’s episode as it airs.

Stream Game of Thrones on Hulu + HBO

Hulu is the best value in streaming. For a $5.99 base Hulu subscription price, you can then add HBO streaming to your package for an additional $14.99. For $11.99 you can get the no-ads subscription, but it’s up to you. There’s a lot of choice. Regardless of which package you choose, you can still add HBO.

All done? Great. You can now watch HBO on any device with Hulu support. That means you can watch previous episodes of Game of Thrones and the remaining episodes of season 8 from the comfort of bed on your Nintendo Switch.

Stream Game of Thrones on HBO Now/HBO Go

The original HBO streaming app is the easiest, but doesn’t save you any money over Prime or Hulu. The price for HBO is $14.99, whether you get it as a part of your cable package, subscribe to the stand-alone HBO Now service or add it to your Prime or Hulu packages.

HBO Now runs on most internet-connected devices, letting you watch new episodes as soon as they start airing, as well as catching up on the old ones and watching everything else HBO has to offer.

HBO Go is basically the same as Now, but you use it through your cable company. If you sign up for HBO as part of your normal television cable package, you can also use HBO Go on your internet-connected devices through most providers.

Stream Game of Thrones on DirectTV Now

Signing up for a new DirectTV Now packages scores you HBO, regardless of which package you pick. That’s pretty excellent. The basic package begins at $50 a month, and while it’s the least inexpensive streaming option on this list, it’s a good cable or satellite replacement if you’re thinking of cutting the cord.

The bad news is none of the consoles are supported, so if your PS4 or Xbox One pulls double-duty as your entertainment streaming device, you’ll need a Roku or other supported device to take advantage of the service.
