It looks like the long-rumoured Nintendo Switch 2 could be officially announced very soon. With a 2024 release date seemingly set in stone, fans have been wondering when Nintendo will lift the lid on the new device. If the latest reports are to be believed, Nintendo unveiled the Nintendo Switch successor at gamescom, albeit to a select few journalists and publishers. The fact that the company has started to showcase the device suggests that a full reveal is imminent, most likely before the end of the year.
The news comes courtesy of Windows Central managing director Jez Corden, who also believes a reveal will take place shortly.
“Heard some rumors recently that Nintendo maybe showed/maybe discussed the new Switch behind closed doors to select press/devs @ Gamescom,” Corden tweets.
“Full reveal/leaks may be relatively imminent.”
Nintendo is actually holding a Direct conference later this week, although the presentation will focus exclusively on upcoming platform game Super Mario Bros Wonder.
It’s more likely the reveal will be saved for a full Nintendo Direct later this autumn. Nintendo typically holds a big Direct conference in September, so fingers crossed we’re just a few weeks away from a look at the new Nintendo Switch.

Of course, some details have already leaked ahead of the official Nintendo Switch 2 reveal.
A report by Chinese site MoneyDJ claimed that a company called Hongzhun is manufacturing metal cases for a Nintendo Switch successor.
The reports have since been backed up by Microsoft court documents, which speculate that the Nintendo Switch 2 will have a 2024 release date.
The console will reportedly cost $399 at launch, which is $100 more than the price of the original Switch when it released in 2017.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will also have an LCD display, instead of a superior OLED screen. The decision to use an LCD screen is seen as a cost-cutting measure for Nintendo.
