A new rumour suggests Sony is getting ready to hold a big PlayStation State of Play event in September. The heavily-rumoured State of Play presentation will reportedly give fans a closer look at the PlayStation Portal handheld device, as well as blockbuster first-party game Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It’s also believed Sony will use the event to announce the PS5 Slim, which is tipped to launch later this month.
Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grub believes the PlayStation Plus price increase is a “lead in” for the upcoming State of Play.
He said: “I’ve heard a State of Play is coming, and this feels like a lead-in for that.”
As a reminder, annual PlayStation Plus subscriptions will increase in price from September 6.
PlayStation Plus Essential subscriptions will increase from £49.99 to £59.99 a year, while 12 month PS Plus Extra memberships will increase from £83.99 to £99.99.
Finally, annual PS Plus Premium subscriptions will increase from £99.99 to £119.99.
As for the State of Play event, all eyes would be on the potential announcement of a PS5 Slim console.
Based on a recent leak, the PS5 Slim is very similar to the existing model, only with a thinner base and removable side plate for adding a detachable disc drive.
Sony will reportedly stop producing the current PS5 models before the end of the year, which will help the company reduce costs.
A PS5 Pro, on the other hand, is tipped to launch in late 2024. The rumoured console will be capable of running games in 8K, and with superior ray-tracing support.
